Recipe #1 – Beef and Barley Cabbage Rolls

13 Jan

Recipe from foodnetwork.com

Today I discovered that I don’t know how to prepare cabbage when I made these cabbage rolls. It was a shocking moment of truth. But despite this, the roles were pretty good, although ever so slightly bland. It also took me considerably longer than 15 minutes to prepare this, and I didn’t even take care of the hamburger browning. The recipe says to simply blanch the cabbage leaves for one minute, but it took several de-leafings and rounds of blanching to get as many leaves as I needed. The recipe also didn’t take into account the amount of time to cook the barley, so all together it really took two hours. Modifications:

-Added 2 cloves of minced garlic to hamburger mixture
-Omitted lemon juice from the melted butter mixture at the end

Here are the rolls…got a little crispy, but just around those tips.
